Recently at my school we had Parent/Teacher Conferences for Term 1. It was a Wednesday and I had dance from 7:00 to 8:00. My parents' conference was a little past 7 o'clock. I got back from dance and asked how the conference went without my presence. I found their story quite entertaining!
As planned they got to my school, parked the car, entered the building, blah blah blah! The door which they had come through was the main office door, where the principal was guiding the parents. So they went and asked the ----
Oops! I forgot to get to one point. My parents are Indian. They grew up in India, speak an Indian language and etc. Even though they have lived in America for more than a few years, they have a strong Bengali accent. The accent prohibits them from pronouncing some words correctly. Back to the story! (BTW, my teacher's name is Mrs. Mallon (MAL-lin)
So they go ahead and ask the principal: "Where is Ms. Mallone (maal-LOAN) 's class room?" Well before I go on there is some 'background knowledge'. There is a 5th grade teacher at our school named Mrs. Mallon and a 4th grade teacher name Mrs. Malone (ma-LOAN). I even told my dad that there are two teachers with these names so he needs to make sure he pronounces my teacher's name correctly.
Our principal, on the other hand, looked at them with a confused look. The problem was my dad's pronunciation was in between both teachers. The principal guessed what teacher they were talking about and sent them to ---- guess where? Mrs. Malone, the 4th grade teacher!! So they went to the wrong classroom and saw that they weren't on the parent list! Well, then (thankfully) my dad realized they came to the wrong classroom (Whew!) And they found the way to get to MY classroom in time.
As my classmate would say: "This calls for Cake!
